🙏 Angelus
Recitation of the Angelus
📍 St. Peter's Square, Vatican City
Pope Leo XIV recites the Angelus at noon from the window of the Apostolic Palace study, overlooking St. Peter's Square. Commenting on the Gospel of the multiplication of the loaves and fishes (Mt 14:13-21), the Pontiff notes that Jesus does not simply perform a miracle of charity, but gives "taste" to our senses, a gesture that finds its culmination in the Last Supper. He warns that accumulation and waste are "two sides of the same evil: greed", a sickness of the spirit that causes one to lose one's senses, intoxicated by riches, to the point of forgetting those who cry out from hunger and thirst: before the abundance of things that rot stand the outstretched hands of those without a table, the burned houses of those without peace. He invites the faithful to bear witness to the beauty of the Eucharist in daily gestures, starting with the blessing of the table when sharing bread with family and friends, and recalls that these days coincide with the traditional "Pardon of Assisi", the indulgence obtained by Saint Francis from Pope Honorius III in 1216, in the year of the eighth centenary of the Saint's death. After the Marian prayer, he renews his appeal to pray for peace, "so that wars may cease in the world and diplomatic solutions to conflicts be found", recalling the victims of hostilities, especially the weakest and most defenseless: children, the elderly, the sick. Speaking in Spanish, he also expresses concern for the plight of the tens of thousands of migrants who in recent days have tried to reach Spain from Morocco through Ceuta, asking God, through the intercession of Our Lady of Africa, that solutions of peace, stability and justice may be found.
