Ordinary activity continues in the Vatican

On Tuesday, September 15, Pope Leo XIV has no public audiences or celebrations scheduled and continues his ordinary work of governing the Church at the offices of the Roman Curia, the day after his visit to the Vatican Apostolic Library for the inauguration of the "AQVA" exhibition and the day after his 71st birthday. In Rome, at the Pontifical Patristic Institute Augustinianum, a conference titled "The 21st Century: A New Age of Martyrs?" is held in two sessions, from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM and from 3:30 PM to 6:30 PM, promoted by the Commission for New Martyrs – Witnesses of the Faith of the Dicastery for the Causes of Saints. After opening remarks by Msgr. Fabio Fabene, the morning session features Cardinal Fridolin Ambongo, Archbishop of Kinshasa, historian Andrea Riccardi, and a roundtable with Sandra Sarti, Sr. Nicoletta Vittoria Spezzati, Lucia Capuzzi and Sr. Alice Drajea Jurugo; the afternoon session opens with Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa, Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, offering the Holy Land perspective, followed by Paolo Affatato on religious pluralism in Asia, Prof. Roberto Regoli on the offering of life and martyrdom in Europe, Prof. Gianni La Bella on the test of Covid and the Gospel, and Msgr. Marco Gnavi on the link between martyrdom and peace, with closing remarks by Cardinal Marcello Semeraro, Prefect of the Dicastery for the Causes of Saints. Conference participants will be received in audience by Pope Leo XIV the following day, Wednesday September 16, before the General Audience.
