Sunday Angelus
📍 St Peter's Square, Vatican City
At midday, from the window of the study in the Apostolic Palace, Pope Leo XIV appears over St Peter's Square to recite the Angelus with the faithful, on the Sunday when the Church celebrates the liturgical feast of St Francis of Assisi, patron saint of Italy. The day coincides with the culmination of the eighth centenary of the Saint's Transitus (1226-2026): during the night just passed, Cardinal Ángel Fernández Artime, Pontifical Legate for the Papal Basilicas of Assisi, presided in the Lower Basilica over the midnight Mass commemorating Francis's death, at the end of the night pilgrimage "Walking with St Francis" from Santa Maria degli Angeli to the Basilica. Pope Leo XIV's Angelus is also followed live in Assisi, where the faithful gathered in the square watch it on big screens, as part of the feast-day celebrations that continue in the morning in the Basilica of St Francis with the solemn Holy Mass. It is also the last day of the worldwide week of prayer "One Million Children Praying the Rosary," promoted by the Aid to the Church in Need foundation.

Angelus - On the eighth centenary of the death of St Francis of Assisi

Dear brothers and sisters, happy Sunday! The Gospel parable proclaimed in this Sunday’s Liturgy speaks of Jesus’ life and sheds light on the meaning of his mission (cf. Mt 21:33-43). He is the Son of God sent into the world, yet he is rejected by the very people who should have welcomed him with open arms. The One who came to bring salvation is con
