Audience with participants in the International Congress on school and university pastoral care
📍 Paul VI Hall, Vatican City
In the morning, on the liturgical memorial of Saint John Paul II, the Pope received in the Paul VI Hall about a thousand organizers and participants in the International Congress on school and university pastoral care "Drawing new maps of hope", promoted by the Dicastery for Culture and Education led by Cardinal José Tolentino de Mendonça (22-23 October). In his address Leo XIV asked that Catholic schools and universities be first of all a "home", a place "where one is expected", in the face of the "existential distress" of many students: "wounded families, digital loneliness", the fear of failure in a "culture of performance" and a "misunderstood meritocracy". "Courage is born of a pact of trust," he said, urging a focus on the "education of the heart": "Beneath the armour that so many adolescents build for themselves so as not to suffer lies the desire to love and be loved."

Audience with a delegation of the American Jewish Committee
📍 Consistory Hall, Vatican Apostolic Palace
The Pope received some forty members of the American Jewish Committee on the day the Church remembers Saint John Paul II, "whose efforts contributed so greatly to fostering the friendship between Jews and Catholics". In his address, delivered in English, Leo XIV reaffirmed what he said at the General Audience of 29 October 2025 for the 60th anniversary of Nostra aetate: "the Church does not tolerate anti-Semitism and fights against it, on the basis of the Gospel itself". "Differences of opinion, however profound, must never give rise to prejudice and hostility," he added, calling for a shared commitment to human dignity, the poor, religious freedom, justice and peace. He concluded with "Shalom!".

Address to the delegation of the American Jewish Committee

Distinguished members of the American Jewish Committee,

On the day registration opened for the 41st World Youth Day, to be held in Seoul (South Korea) from 3 to 8 August 2027, the Pope released a video message in English inviting young people from all over the world to "a pilgrimage of faith, friendship and hope". Recalling the theme "Take courage! I have overcome the world" (Jn 16:33) and the words of Saint John Paul II, founder of WYD, on his liturgical memorial ("Do not be afraid. Open wide the doors for Christ"), he urged them to bring to Seoul "your dreams, desires, and hopes, as well as your wounds and struggles". "I look forward to seeing you in Seoul!"
