Audience for the Congress marking the 150th anniversary of the Faculty of Canon Law of the Pontifical Gregorian University
📍 Apostolic Palace, Vatican
In the morning the Holy Father received participants in the International Congress promoted by the Pontifical Gregorian University (20-24 October) for the 150th anniversary of its Faculty of Canon Law, established on 16 August 1876 at the wish of Blessed Pius IX. Recalling the Ignatian motto "Non multa, sed multum", the Pope asked that canon law be studied "in the light of the mystery of the Church", at the service of "the supernatural good of persons", pursuing true justice "never separated in the Church from truth and mercy" ("Ordinata dilectio est iustitia", St Augustine). He also recalled the Faculty's special role in serving the Petrine ministry and urged that students from all over the world experience the Church as a universal communion.
