🏛️ Ordinary activity
Ordinary governance activity in the Roman Curia
📍 Apostolic Palace, Vatican City
On Friday Pope Leo XIV has no public audiences or liturgical celebrations scheduled. The calendar of celebrations presided over by the Holy Father for September and October 2026, released by the Office for the Liturgical Celebrations of the Supreme Pontiff, lists no appointments for the day. The Pope continues his ordinary work of governing the Church in the offices of the Roman Curia, with the customary private audiences for prelates, heads of Dicasteries and bishops on their 'ad limina' visits, and the signing of appointments and measures made public in the Holy See Press Office Bulletin. The next public appointment on the agenda is the Angelus on Sunday 13 September; it will be followed, on Monday 14 September, on his 71st birthday, by the visit to the Vatican Apostolic Library for the opening of the 'AQVA' exhibition, and on Wednesday 16 September by the General Audience and the audience with participants in the conference on the new martyrs.

🗒️ Press conference
Presentation of the 4th Synodal Meeting 'Fratelli tutti'
📍 Holy See Press Office
At 1:00 p.m., in the Holy See Press Office, the press conference was held to present the 4th Synodal Meeting 'Fratelli tutti', devoted to the social-environmental dialogue between the Global North and the Global South and scheduled in Rome from 10 to 12 September 2026 at the Generalate House of the Brothers of the Christian Schools (La Salle). Speakers included Cardinal Jaime Spengler, Archbishop of Porto Alegre and President of CELAM, Liz Shuler, President of the United States trade union federation AFL-CIO, Msgr. Daniel Flores, Auxiliary Bishop of Brownsville (United States Conference of Catholic Bishops), Cardinal Leonardo Steiner, Archbishop of Manaus and President of the Ecclesial Conference of the Amazon (CEAMA), as well as Gerardo Martínez (ILO) and Msgr. Reginaldo Andrietta. Cardinal Spengler stressed the urgency of 'uniting the best forces of our societies, North and South,' to tackle the socio-environmental crisis that hits the poor hardest, noting that the synodal process has developed participatory methodologies within the Church's evangelizing outlook. Liz Shuler called for AI to be governed responsibly, pointing to a 'future of hope and justice.' Msgr. Flores emphasized the US Church 'walking together' to give voice to the marginalized, while Cardinal Steiner reaffirmed, drawing on Pope Francis's integral ecology, the link between human dignity and ecological concerns. Msgr. Andrietta called for overcoming a culture of indifference by building bridges between continents grounded in Christian ethics.
Pope Leo XIV sent a telegram to the Chief Rabbi of Rome, Dr. Riccardo Di Segni, on the occasion of the Jewish holidays of Rosh Ha-Shanah, Yom Kippur and Sukkot. In the message the Pontiff wrote the wish that 'the arrival of Rosh Ha-Shanah bring the promise of serene renewal and the sweetness of an auspicious beginning; may the sacred silence of Yom Kippur be an occasion of peace and inner light; may the feast of Sukkot be full of joy, gratitude and conviviality.' The Pope recalled with gratitude Rabbi Di Segni's presence at the start of his Petrine ministry on 18 May, wishing that God grant 'the gift of peace and the tireless desire to always promote it,' and concluding with the greeting 'Shalom alechem!' and the hope of growing 'in mutual friendship,' in Rome and in the world.
The Holy See Press Office Bulletin discloses that Pope Leo XIV has accepted the resignation from the pastoral governance of the Diocese of Alessandria presented by Bishop Guido Gallese, and has appointed Bishop Luigi Testore, Bishop of Acqui, as apostolic administrator of the same diocese. In an interview, Bishop Gallese explained that he was leaving the post "out of love and respect for this Church," adding that "it is time to turn the page."

🤝 Audience
Audience with Bishop Pavlo Honcharuk of Kharkiv-Zaporizhzhia
📍 Apostolic Palace, Vatican City
Pope Leo XIV holds a roughly hour-long private audience with Bishop Pavlo Honcharuk of Kharkiv-Zaporizhzhia — one of the Ukrainian dioceses hit hardest by the war — accompanied by Fr. Volodymyr Kyrylyuk, rector of the seminary of the Latin Diocese of Kamianets-Podilskyi and a volunteer chaplain to a military unit. "The Pope welcomed us with an open heart, and the entire audience was very, very warm," Bishop Honcharuk tells Vatican News. The bishop thanks the Pontiff for his prayers, closeness and support for Ukraine, for his commitment to the release of prisoners and the return of deported children, and renews the invitation for the Pope to visit the country and, if possible, Kharkiv itself. He describes the city as "the epicenter" of the war, subjected to "continuous bombardment of civilians and warehouses, a true death machine" that is severely affecting children too, in a situation he likens to "the extermination of the people in Ukraine." He reports that the Pope assured him the Holy See "is doing everything possible to bring this war to an end," now in its fifth year, working hard on both the diplomatic and spiritual fronts. The bishop highlights the importance of recent visits by Cardinal Matteo Zuppi and Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher, a sign that "the Holy See is making every possible effort," using "all the tools at its disposal": "for us this matters because it shows we are not alone, that the world clearly sees who the victim is and who the aggressor is."
