Pope Leo XIV sent a telegram to the Chief Rabbi of Rome, Dr. Riccardo Di Segni, on the occasion of the Jewish holidays of Rosh Ha-Shanah, Yom Kippur and Sukkot. In the message the Pontiff wrote the wish that 'the arrival of Rosh Ha-Shanah bring the promise of serene renewal and the sweetness of an auspicious beginning; may the sacred silence of Yom Kippur be an occasion of peace and inner light; may the feast of Sukkot be full of joy, gratitude and conviviality.' The Pope recalled with gratitude Rabbi Di Segni's presence at the start of his Petrine ministry on 18 May, wishing that God grant 'the gift of peace and the tireless desire to always promote it,' and concluding with the greeting 'Shalom alechem!' and the hope of growing 'in mutual friendship,' in Rome and in the world.
