At the opening of the biennial international symposium "AI4Peace" (September 21-22), promoted by the Pontifical Academy for Life, the United Nations University for Peace and the Pontifical Lateran University on the opportunities and challenges posed by artificial intelligence in conflict prevention and resolution, a message from Pope Leo XIV is read, signed by Fr. Andrea Ciucci, chancellor of the Pontifical Academy for Life. The Pope writes that "in a world marked by conflicts and divisions, the development of Artificial Intelligence requires a vision inspired by wisdom and charity," and urges that the fruits of technological innovation be transformed into instruments of peace, through authentic attention to the good of others that fosters dialogue and reconciliation among peoples. The conference, held to coincide with the United Nations International Day of Peace, features speakers including Francisco Rojas Aravena, rector of the UN University for Peace, Msgr. Renzo Pegoraro, president of the Pontifical Academy for Life, and scholars Jeremy Rifkin, Jeffrey Sachs and Antoinette Rouvroy.
