📰 Social Communications 2027
Theme of the 61st World Day of Social Communications announced
📍 Vatican City
The Dicastery for Communication announces the theme chosen by Pope Leo XIV for the 61st World Day of Social Communications, to be celebrated on 9 May 2027: "A New Gaze: Paying Attention in the Age of Clickbait." The message states that communicating does not mean "capturing attention" with sensationalist headlines, but "paying attention" to the other and to the truth, with a gaze that prefers to encounter rather than to judge. The text criticizes how digital culture fuels "the lack of true attention," accustoming us to "immediate reactions" and the "superficiality of relationships," and invites educators to promote "rhythms that allow for silence, in-depth study, and reading," calling attention "a precious form of generosity." The document is available in Italian, French, English, Spanish and Portuguese.
