General Audience: "The relationship between faith and culture"
📍 St Peter's Square, Vatican City
At 10:00, after the customary popemobile tour among some thirty thousand faithful, Leo XIV continued his catechesis cycle on "The Documents of the Second Vatican Council" with the seventh reflection on Gaudium et Spes: "The relationship between faith and culture" (GS 53-62; reading Acts 17:22-23). The relationship between faith and culture, he explained, "finds its primary foundation in the Incarnation": faith is "an incarnate reality" and is "called to become culture". The Pope recalled the Church's commitment to education and the medieval universities born "from the heart of the Church", access for all to cultural goods and the role of women in cultural life, and urged believers not to live their faith "in a spirit of opposition or hostility towards the world". In his greetings he invited the faithful to look to the Saints as a "prophetic sign of the life to come" ahead of November 1, recalled prayer for the dead in German and, in Polish, Blessed Elżbieta Róża Czacka, "blind mother of the blind", 150 years after her birth. At the end he greeted a group of Catholic activists from Chicago who minister to migrants held at the Broadview ICE detention centre.

Before the General Audience the Pope received Mercedes-Benz executives on the occasion of the exhibition "A Century of Popemobiles", presented that morning at the Vatican Museums, marking almost a hundred years of collaboration with the Holy See that began in 1930 with the first car given to Pius XI. In his greeting he noted that "the popemobile has gone from being a means of transport to becoming an instrument of encounter", recalled the first fully electric popemobile delivered to Pope Francis for the 2025 Jubilee, and encouraged them to "place technological innovation at the service of human dignity, care for creation and the common good".
