State visit to the Republic of San Marino
📍 Torraccia Airfield / Piazza della Libertà, San Marino
Pope Leo XIV departs by helicopter from the Vatican at 8:00 AM and lands a few minutes early, at 8:45 AM, at the Torraccia Airfield. At 9:30 AM the official welcome at Palazzo Pubblico by the Captains Regent Alice Mina and Vladimiro Selva, who in their welcome address quote a passage from the encyclical "Magnifica Humanitas" on the risks of the technocratic paradigm. In the Great and General Council Hall the Pope delivers his address on freedom: "There is no true civil liberty without personal freedom, that is, without respect for and promotion of the dignity of the human person. This freedom is ultimately given and guaranteed by God, whose voice resounds in the conscience of every human being." He points to San Marino as a possible "laboratory of good politics," grounded in the principles of Catholic social doctrine: the common good, the universal destination of goods, subsidiarity and solidarity. He then greets and blesses the crowd from the balcony of Piazza della Libertà. This is only the third time in history that a Pope has visited the Republic of the Titano, after John Paul II (August 29, 1982) and Benedict XVI (June 19, 2011).
